Milestones Academy is a certified private agency that serves students ages five to twenty-one. We provide year-round individualized instruction utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Our team is made up of Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Special Education Teachers, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and paraprofessionals. Our school is comprised of three programs, each focused on the specific needs of the students we serve. Students participate in one or more of these programs based on assessments, Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, and other factors.

The Stepping Stones program is focused on learning and language milestones. We utilize the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) assessment, which addresses skills in early communication and social development. Students are supported by a Special Education Teacher and paraprofessionals throughout their day.

The Modified Academics Hall focuses on progression through grade level academics with modifications and support that allow the students to be successful. We have two classrooms, each supported by a Special Education Teacher. Assessments will reflect standards set by the department of education in Missouri and Kansas.

The Essentials for Living Hall focuses on teaching functional skills, building learning repertoires, selecting and testing effectiveness of an alternative method of speaking, tolerating skills, and health and safety skills. This program also supports our students who are working on pre-vocational and vocational skills through on-site job practice and community-based job placements.

We accept students from previous placements that have intensive behavioral and teaching needs. Due to our highly individualized, and very flexible programs, we can develop efficient and effective solutions to behavioral issues that impede learning. These modifications allow our team to provide specialized instruction that supports our students in acquiring the necessary and socially-significant skills to be an engaged member of their community.

At Milestones Academy, we develop effective data-based supports for our students, stabilize their behavior and start to work on academic progress. From there, with teamwork and collaboration, we reintegrate students back to a more traditional school setting wherein students can be among their peers. Each transition back to the home district is completely individualized and includes extensive on-site training at Milestones Academy as well as training directly on-site at that student's home district. We are also able to provide ongoing follow-up and/or training of staff in district.
